you’re getting responses? None of my applications are generating responses at all… no ‘thanks anyway’, or ‘good luck elsewhere’ or even ‘please stop trying’.

Sorry to hear that. No matter how much positive spin we keep hearing on the news, these are still tough times.
Guess we just keep hanging in there, eh?

I am on the other side of this. I have been trying to hire a new sous chef. It has been rough going. I know the economy is bad, heck Heather just got laid off, and I know people need jobs. But when I post job openings, and list a set of qualifications, please do not apply, if you don’t fit the qualifications listed.
It just wastes my time to go through all of these Craig list emails.
The guy who was a manager of a movie theater concessions stand for six month was particularly funny.
Todd something will come along, and when it does, you will be glad you waited.
(That was a heartfelt encouragement speech. I am l not so good with these, so it might sound trite. But I do mean it. You’ll get there.)

Agreed, such a canned response. Once, I received a rejection letter 6 months after I applied!
they want you to custom tailor your cover letter and resume to fit their needs, but then they send you a canned response. Shows the level of commitment on their part and its probably better you dont work for them …

Very true. Luckily, I’m a big believer in the philosophy that says things tend to work out the way they’re supposed to, and there’s a good reason why I didn’t get that particular job.
